“Wake of Dawn in Kokino” is organized annually by the Museum of Kumanovo and the Municipality of Kumanovo. The event is held each year on 31 July at 6:00 AM in the Megalithic Observatory in the village of Kokino. In the past, this archaelogical site from the Bronze Age was the site of mountain rituals by prehistoric inhabitants. One of the biggest ceremonies took place in mid-summer, when a solar beam passing through a vertical incision of the rock illuminated the stones where the tribal elder once sat. The ruler at the time of the lighting ritual united with the Sun God and it was considered a guarantee that next year there would be an abundant harvest and a peaceful life. Thus, the central point in the programming of this event is the celebration of the ancient rite of welcoming the solar beam, which even today passes through the vertical space in the rocks and alights upon the existing stone thrones.
